While Utah's news doesn't surprise anyone, it is further proof of our strong economy and a sign of what contractors will be facing for years to come: plenty of work.

As contractors, we often think of safety in terms of OSHA regulations and guidelines. Do we have the proper equipment? Have we received the right training? Is the work area such to prevent accidents? Basically, the focus is on construction worker and work site safety.

2016 saw a near-record pace for commercial construction and development along the Wasatch front. That growth was especially prevalent near the southern end of the front, otherwise known as Utah's "Silicon Slopes."

The strong economy, while good, is also part of the problem. Other industries are also strong, and attracting younger workers. With an educational focus on STEM learning, many millennials are attracted to the tech industry. Round Table members hope that things can change by way of offering vocational training at the high school level, as well as showing that a career in construction can be highly rewarding.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed new rules for municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) which preserve the ability of cities to choose from a wide range of options to tackle urban water pollution. This is a big win for home builders....

And while white rooftops might mean something different in northern Utah, the white tiles might be something to consider in the deserts of southern Utah.

Just another sign of the strong construction industry in Utah.
