It's summer, which means construction season in full swing in the state of Utah. With too many construction projects to count, things are good in the Beehive State.
With the summer season and extra-warm temperatures comes a word of caution. We had a snowy winter and a rainy spring, which gave way to a bumper crop of grasses - which are now drying out and serve better as kindling than grass.
A brush fire was sparked in Ivins last week when sparks from a chop saw landed in cheat grass and the fire took off, Ivins Fire Chief Randy Hancey said. The fire burned about two acres, but fortunately was contained and extinguished within about a half hour.
This is just a reminder to beware of surrounding conditions when working on construction projects. Pay attention to factors like wind and temperature. Keep a water supply on site and make sure your phones are fully charged should you need to call for help.
Stay safe out there and have a productive summer!
