Rocky Mountain Power Honors LDS Church, Others for Energy Conservation
Posted on October 16th, 2015

On October 5th, the LDS church was given an award by Rocky Mountain Power as its 2015 wattsmart business partner for energy conservation.

According to a report in The Deseret News: "Since the start of its partnership with Rocky Mountain Power in 2007, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has saved more than 16 million kilowatt-hours — enough energy to power 1,777 average Utah homes for a year. The church saved 2.6 million kilowatt-hours in 2014 and nearly 1.3 million kilowatt-hours so far in 2015, said Cindy Crane, president of Rocky Mountain Power.

The church took such measures as replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs, installing motion sensors, and even powering one of its buildings with solar power. So far, 600 different projects have been carried out with more to come. Executives at Rocky Mountain Power say that energy conservation saves everybody money - including themselves because it saves them from building additional power plants.

In addition, Iron County School District and Hill Air Force Base were also honored for their conservation efforts.
