Real Salt Lake is know for many things: a winning soccer team, community outreach, and now... solar power. The organization recently unveiled a new solar panel array, which fittingly, is equivalent to the size of a soccer field.
The new solar panels offset Rio Tinto's power usage by 73% - the most by any professional sporting organization in the country. The panels were installed onto the stadium structure itself, as well as to the top of new covered parking structures.
The environmental impact of the new solar array carries the carbon-dioxide reduction equivalent of removing 450 cars from the road or planting 47,278 trees annually, while providing enough power to light and heat 284 homes for a calendar year.
The project was completed in partnership with Rocky Mountain Power and Auric Solar.
