By some estimates, Donald Trump has received about two billion dollars in free advertising, thanks to all of the media attention he gets. Advertising is no easy thing to come by - especially if you aren't currently running for the highest political office in the country. Free advertising is even harder to come by. However, here are four things you can do to market yourself and your business for free.
1. Use Social Media
With just a little savvy, you can leverage social media to your benefit. Create a Facebook page and share relevant information, helpful tips, and even pictures and videos.
2. Join an Association
As part of an association, you have a built-in network and support system. Associations often have catalogs or indexes of outlets where you might be able to pitch stories and ideas.
3. Pitch to Local Media
You might be surprised to find that local media (newspapers, magazines, T.V. stations) are often willing to support local businesses. A quick scan of their websites or publications will lead you to the contact information for editors and reporters. If you've got a great story idea, they just might be interested - especially if you can position yourself as an expert with a unique point of view.
4. Be Persistent/Proactive
Not every outlet will like or accept every story idea. But as mentioned, if you can give it a unique spin, they might be willing to reconsider. Think about seasonal projects, holidays, local events - anything that might give your idea something that stands out from other pitches.
You have a wealth of free resources and tools at your disposal. With a little effort, you can use them to your advantage to help you grow and increase your bottom line.
