Is Construction Booming?
Posted on October 18th, 2016

There were 214,000 open construction sector jobs in July
nationwide, which marks
the second highest monthly count of open, unfilled jobs since May 2007.
This information comes from data gathered by NAHB from the Bureau of
Labor Statistics.
“Residential construction offers a number of fulfilling career opportunities, from architects and engineers to carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and landscapers,” said NAHB Chairman Ed Brady, a home builder and developer from Bloomington, Ill. “Yet, our builders are telling us that access to skilled labor remains a top challenge.”
It would seem that as millennials continue to look for jobs while avoiding massive college debt, residential construction could be the solution they're looking for. It is important to spread the word to younger generations that construction offers a viable and satisfying career path. They should be encouraged to seek vocational training - and schools should be encouraged to offer it.
Many people left the industry during the great recession and not enough of them have returned, leaving worker shortages across the nation. Fortunately, UTCLC can help you find your way back to the industry - with relicensure, continuing education, and test prep. Utah, especially is leading the nation in terms of economic growth - and with that comes demand for construction - currently the fastest growing industry in the state.
