Construction Continues to Grow in Utah
Posted on August 9th, 2016

Almost anywhere you go in Utah, particularly the Lehi, Farmington and St. George areas, you’ll find new commercial developments rising from the ground. That's not to say things aren't bustling in the Salt Lake or Ogden areas, because they are. You almost can't turn a corner in this state without seeing or running into some type of construction somewhere.

Even better, while construction demand is high, so are the wages for Utah's skilled craftsmen and contractors.

Why?

Simply put, there just aren't enough of you out there. Many people who were forced out during the Great Recession just never came back. Many of those group took an early retirement. Younger people weren't incentivized and didn't see a future in the industry, so we lost them as well. But here we are, in the middle of 2016, and there's far more work than workers. The great news is, for those who have stuck it out, the work is plentiful and the pay is good.

According to Utah Business, Utah’s construction industry has essentially been in a rebuilding period since the recession, so those who did stay in the crafts were expecting and demanding higher base wages. We saw wages go up between 10 and 14 percent in that time period, and it has maintained that 10 to 14 percent even today.

Workers of all crafts are currently needed. In fact, many contractors are overbidding by as much as 2x over other contractors, hoping not to get the job, because they are already overbooked.

In short, it's a great time to join the industry. UTCLC has everything you need to help you start on your path or to rejoin the path! Give us a call to find out how we can help you take advantage of the amazing opportunities currently happening in the state of Utah.
