Consider This
We keep hearing about the shortage of workers in the construction industry. One of the problems is that there aren't enough young people to replace the aging population. Vocational/trade programs aren't popular and therefore aren't widely available. Well, here is one way different organizations are working to solve the problem:
Legos.
That's right. Those little plastic bricks that can make a bare-footed man cry are also adored by millions of children around the world. And now they're being used to introduce young people to the world of construction. Traditionally, Legos have been more popularly used as a gateway to robotics and engineering. But builders' organizations are seeing the value of the little bricks in construction, as well.
For example, When the gates open for the 49th annual New Hampshire State Home Show March 18, the New Hampshire HBA has high hopes that the event garners more than just leads for its members – not that more business isn’t a great goal. By partnering with the state’s chapter of the FIRST Lego League , the HBA is looking to attract future home builders. Kids in two different age groups will compete for prizes as they build and construct homes made from Legos.
HBA members hope to get the contestants more interested in pursuing a career in the residential building industry. “We want to be able to get kids excited about home construction. That’s our goal.”
Have you considered reaching out to local Lego leagues? It may generate some business, but it might just inspire the next generation of contractors, as well.
