The Bountiful city council held
a public hearing this week to propose a multi-million dollar project to replace
the old town hall and add a city plaza. It's a question of $13 million for the
project vs. $6.5 million in repairs and renovations for the old building.
City manager Gary Hill said the new building would cost the city $13 million,
paid for through the city's Capital Reserve Program.
If approved, the site of new city hall and city plaza would replace Stoker
School and a soccer field on 200 South. It would also close 200 South between
Main Street and 100 East.
However, the proposal was met with a lack of support from
local residents. Most people would rather see the money spent elsewhere, such as
on education or youth facilities. The council will vote on the project on
October 25.
