Published May 31st, 2018

If you like to work with your hands and are looking for a job with great potential, going into construction could be a great option.  There are several reasons why pursuing a career in construction could be a great option for you.

Job Satisfaction

One great reason to work in the construction industry is that it provides great job satisfaction. When working in construction, you will likely spend a lot of your time moving around and getting exercise. Furthermore, you will get to see the continued progress of the project that you are working on and ultimately see people benefit from all of your hard work. This can help you feel satisfied and proud at the end of a hard day.

Demand

While the overall demand for construction is cyclical, those with skilled labor abilities will always be in demand. While new construction buildings may not be going up in the down markets, buildings will always need to be renovated and improved, which will continue to require a need for construction workers. Furthermore, the average age of a construction worker is continuing to go up, which means there will be a strong need for more construction workers in the future.

Compensation

Another advantage of working in construction is that workers can be very well compensated.  Overall, construction workers around $50,000 per year on average. However, those that work for a union can expect to earn more and accrue valuable long-term benefits.  Those that go into management or project oversight will frequently earn well more than $100,000 per year.
