Another Sign of Spring: Construction

In the first sign of spring, the first few tulips and daffodils are breaking through the ground; and if you've driven on I-15 through the Woods Cross area recently, you may have noticed another spring phenomenon: construction.

According to Fox 13 News, The Woods Crossing development is located at 2600 South and Wildcat Way, making it easy to spot from the freeway. City officials have been planning the project for about a year, and said it’s exciting to be at a point where buildings will go up.

“We’re putting a public plaza place on there,” said Woods Cross City Administrator Gary Uresk. “There will be a waterfall, a clock tower, so we’re hoping to make it a nice place where people come in and enjoy shopping and the amenities there.”

The multi-million dollar complex will include a Smith’s grocery store, and several other retail shops, all within walking distance.

Developer John Thackery said it’s a model that’s gaining popularity across the state, with similar projects going on in Layton, Draper and Centerville.

“We try to establish a sense of gathering place,” Thackery said. “We try to have a proximity from the major tenants to the rest of the retail stores, a person and park their car and walk from amenities.”

Construction is slated for completion in November of this year.
